Doris Day – Hooray for Hollywood

This song always makes me feel cheerful but lets you know that under all that fake tinsel, there is Real tinsel!

Aretha Franklin –I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)

The Queen of soul. What else can I tell you, except I used to buy her records at Mascall Records in South Ken in 1963.

Nina Simone – Baltimore

I like songs written about places, particularly American towns; I mean 24 hours to Bognor somehow doesn't work. There is a beautiful melancholy in this song.

Peggy Lee – I'm a Fool to Want You

The sadness of unequal passion!

Kate & Anna McGarrigle – La Vache Qui Pleure

I love the McGarrigle sisters Kate and Anna, Sadly, Kate died last year, I love their music.

Melissa Etheridge – Dance Without sleeping

I think it's the sentiment I like and, when it gets going, the anthem like melody.

Rebekah Del Rio – Llorando

I love movie music, I love David Lynch, this is from a stunning sequence in Mulholland Drive. The song is "Crying" by Roy Orbison, sung in Spanish, of course!

The Patti Smith Group – Dancing Barefoot

Patti lived in the Chelsea, (Though she doesn't remember which room.) From her description I think it was my studio; not why I picked this song! This makes me want to do what the song's title suggests.

Bille Holiday –Crazy He Calls Me

Billie, my first love, (after Winifred Atwell!)

Concha Buika – No Habra Nadie En El Mundo

Can't give you a translation but things don't sound good. But the voice and music is gorgeous!
